What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a technique that uses gentle, rhythmic strokes to stimulate the lymphatic system and encourage it to transport fluid from swollen areas and back into the lymphatic system.
MLD is sometimes referred to as a lymphatic massage, it is not a massage. While it utilizes light pressure touch to move lymph fluid, it does not involve manipulating muscles.
Why get Manual Lymphatic Drainage?
We are fortunate to have three MLD-Certified therapists on staff to work together for your care!
For general wellness, we recommend MLD monthly. If you have a specific need, please ask your therapist about recommendations.
For post-op care, MLD helps reduce swelling and can increase mobility during recovery. The plastic surgeons we've worked with recommend MLD 2-3 times a week for the first 4-6 weeks post-op and then 1-2 times a week after during your recovery. This helps to cut down on post-op and fibrotic tissue.
