s a new year begins, many people take time to reassess their health routines and set intentions for improved well-being. For individuals living with lymphedema, recovering from cancer treatment, or managing a compromised lymphatic system, this reflection is especially meaningful. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is not a luxury. It’s an essential component of long-term care, comfort, and mobility. The start of the year offers an ideal opportunity to recommit to consistent lymphatic support.

Why Consistency with Lymphatic Drainage Matters

The lymphatic system plays a vital role in maintaining immune health, managing fluid balance, and supporting tissue recovery. Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic system does not have a central pump and relies heavily on movement, breathing, and manual techniques to function efficiently. When this system is impaired, whether due to surgery, radiation, trauma, or chronic conditions, fluid can accumulate, leading to swelling, discomfort, and increased risk of infection.

Regular Manual Lymphatic Drainage helps encourage healthy lymph flow, reduces swelling, softens fibrotic tissue, and supports overall immune resilience. For individuals with lymphedema, consistent sessions can mean the difference between manageable symptoms and frequent flare-ups. Rather than viewing MLD as an occasional treatment, it is best approached as an ongoing part of a comprehensive wellness and medical care plan.

The New Year as a Reset for Care Routines

The transition into a new year naturally brings attention to routines: what is working, what has fallen away, and what needs more support. For many people managing chronic conditions, healthcare can become reactive rather than proactive. Appointments get postponed, symptoms are tolerated longer than they should be, and self-care often becomes secondary to daily obligations.

The beginning of the year is an excellent time to shift that mindset. Scheduling regular lymphatic drainage sessions early helps establish consistency before symptoms escalate. It also allows individuals to align MLD with other supportive therapies such as compression, physical therapy, exercise programs approved by their provider, and medical follow-ups.

Supporting Post-Cancer Recovery Through Lymphatic Care

Cancer treatments save lives, but they often leave lasting effects on the lymphatic system. Surgical removal of lymph nodes, radiation therapy, and certain chemotherapies can disrupt lymphatic flow and create long-term vulnerability to swelling and infection. MLD is a highly specialized, gentle technique designed to support the body’s natural drainage pathways and reduce strain on compromised lymph structures.

For cancer survivors, fitting lymphatic drainage into the new year is not simply about managing swelling, It’s about supporting long-term recovery, comfort, and confidence in daily movement. Consistent care can improve range of motion, decrease discomfort, and help individuals feel more in control of their healing process.

Practical Tips for Making Lymphatic Drainage Part of Your Routine

Consistency does not have to feel overwhelming. Here are a few practical ways to integrate lymphatic care into your new year:

Schedule in advance: Booking sessions several weeks or months ahead increases follow-through and reduces last-minute cancellations.

Coordinate with medical care: Align MLD sessions with oncology follow-ups, physical therapy, or compression garment fittings for comprehensive support.

Listen to early symptoms: Subtle increases in tightness, heaviness, or swelling are signals—not inconveniences. Addressing them early prevents progression.

Practice daily self-care techniques: Simple breathing exercises, light movement, and therapist-guided self-MLD can extend the benefits of in-office sessions.

Plan financially: Many clients choose to budget for lymphatic care as part of their annual healthcare costs, reinforcing its value as a medical necessity.

A Supportive Start to the Year

At The Supine Studio, lymphatic drainage is not treated as a trend. It’s a deeply intentional, evidence-informed service for individuals who truly need specialized care. Whether you are managing long-standing lymphedema, recovering from cancer treatment, or navigating new symptoms, the new year offers a moment to re-center your care around consistency, comfort, and long-term health.

By making lymphatic drainage part of your regular routine now, you are investing in more than symptom relief, you are supporting your body’s ability to heal, adapt, and thrive throughout the year ahead.

Liposuction is one of the most sought-after cosmetic procedures for those looking to remove stubborn fat deposits and refine their body contours. While the surgery itself is relatively straightforward, the recovery process plays a crucial role in achieving optimal results. Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are common post-operative concerns, making proper aftercare essential. One of the most effective ways to enhance recovery and improve outcomes is through Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD).

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)?

MLD is a specialized massage technique designed to stimulate the lymphatic system, which is responsible for removing waste, toxins, and excess fluid from the body. This gentle, rhythmic massage encourages lymph flow, reduces inflammation, and supports immune function. By guiding excess fluid toward the lymph nodes, MLD helps the body process and eliminate it more efficiently, which is especially beneficial following liposuction.

Why is Lymphatic Drainage Essential for Liposuction Recovery?

Liposuction, while effective, causes trauma to the body. The removal of fat disrupts the surrounding tissues, leading to fluid accumulation, swelling, and bruising. MLD addresses these issues by:

Reducing Swelling and Bruising: Post-liposuction swelling occurs as the body responds to surgical trauma. MLD helps accelerate the body’s natural healing process by increasing lymphatic drainage, reducing puffiness, and minimizing bruising.

Preventing Seroma Formation: Seromas, or fluid pockets under the skin, are a common post-surgical concern. If left untreated, they can cause discomfort and may require medical intervention. MLD decreases the risk of seroma formation by preventing fluid buildup in the affected areas.

Enhancing Circulation and Healing: Improved circulation leads to better oxygenation and nutrient delivery to the tissues. This supports faster recovery and ensures smoother, more uniform results from the liposuction procedure.

Softening Scar Tissue and Fibrosis: In some cases, post-surgical fibrosis (hardened tissue) can develop, leading to uneven skin texture. MLD techniques can help break down fibrotic areas, leading to a softer and more natural contour.

When Should You Start Lymphatic Drainage?

The timing of MLD sessions plays a key role in maximizing recovery benefits. At The Supine Studio, we recommend:

Pre-Liposuction MLD: Ideally, clients should begin MLD 2-4 weeks before surgery. This helps stimulate the lymphatic system and prepare the body for the procedure.

Immediate Post-Surgical MLD: MLD should begin within a few days after liposuction, ideally within 3 days post-surgery.

Ongoing Sessions: Depending on the extent of liposuction and individual healing rates, 2-3 MLD sessions per week for the first 2-6 weeks post-surgery are typically beneficial.

To ensure a seamless recovery process, we strongly encourage scheduling all MLD appointments as soon as you confirm your liposuction date. This ensures you receive the care you need without delays.

What to Expect During an Lymphatic Drainage Session

MLD is performed by a trained therapist using light, repetitive strokes to encourage lymphatic movement. Unlike traditional deep tissue or Swedish massages, MLD is gentle and should never cause pain. Each session lasts between 30 to 60 minutes, focusing on the areas affected by liposuction. The experience is soothing and designed to support your body’s natural healing mechanisms.

Is MLD Safe for Everyone?

MLD is a safe and non-invasive technique suitable for most individuals. However, certain conditions, such as active infections, congestive heart failure, or deep vein thrombosis, may require a consultation with a healthcare provider before beginning treatment. It is essential to work with a qualified therapist experienced in post-surgical MLD to ensure safe and effective care.

Supporting Your Recovery Beyond MLD

While MLD is a powerful tool for recovery, it works best when combined with other post-operative care techniques, including:

Compression Garments: Wearing surgeon-recommended compression garments helps control swelling and supports skin retraction.

Proper Hydration and Nutrition: Staying hydrated and eating nutrient-rich foods promote tissue repair and healing.

Rest and Light Movement: While rest is crucial, gentle movement (such as short walks) can prevent stiffness and promote circulation.

Key Take Aways

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a key component of a smooth and successful liposuction recovery. By reducing swelling, preventing complications, and enhancing healing, MLD helps clients achieve the best possible results from their procedure. If you’re planning for liposuction, incorporating MLD into your recovery plan is one of the best investments you can make in your healing journey.

This blog is a guest post from Meghan Davidson from Soulshine Pelvic Health.

Hip and back pain can feel like a mystery. You stretch, strengthen, foam roll, maybe even ice, but the discomfort lingers. What if the missing piece isn’t in your hips or back at all, but in your pelvic floor? That’s right. This group of muscles at the base of your pelvis plays a bigger role in your overall movement and stability than you might realize.

What is the Pelvic Floor?

The pelvic floor is a bowl-shaped group of muscles located at the base of your pelvis. These muscles work like a sling, supporting your internal organs, including the bladder, bowel, and (for those with a uterus) the uterus. They help control essential functions like urination, bowel movements, and sexual activity. But the pelvic floor isn’t just about function—it’s a critical part of your core.

Think of your core like a soda can:

The top is your diaphragm (your breathing muscle).

The sides are your abdominal and back muscles.

And the bottom is your pelvic floor.

Together, these structures manage pressure within your body, stabilize your spine, and allow for smooth, coordinated movement. When one part of this system—like the pelvic floor—isn’t working well, it can create imbalances that lead to pain or dysfunction in other areas, like your hips or back.

How the Pelvic Floor Affects Hip and Back Pain

The pelvic floor isn’t just hanging out at the bottom of your pelvis. It’s an active participant in your body’s movement and stability. Here’s how it connects to hip and back pain:

The pelvic floor directly interacts with your hips through muscles and ligaments. If these are tight or weak, your hips may become overworked, leading to pain.

It also plays a key role in stabilizing your spine. When the pelvic floor is dysfunctional—too tight, weak, or poorly coordinated—your back muscles often take on extra strain, leading to chronic discomfort.

If you’ve been battling hip or back pain and traditional treatments haven’t worked, the pelvic floor might be the missing piece of the puzzle.

Signs Your Pelvic Floor Might Be Contributing

So how do you know if your pelvic floor is part of the problem? Here are some common signs:

Persistent hip or back pain that doesn’t respond to other treatments.

Issues like leaking, pelvic pressure, or painful sex.

Difficulty walking, bending, or sitting comfortably.

A sense of tightness or tension in your hips or pelvic area.

If these sound familiar, it’s worth considering a pelvic floor evaluation.

The Pelvic Floor and Movement Patterns

One of the most common contributors to pelvic floor-related hip and back pain is poor movement patterns. For example:

Compensating Muscles: If your glutes or deep core muscles aren’t pulling their weight, your pelvic floor or back might try to pick up the slack, leading to pain or overuse injuries.

Tension vs. Weakness: Many people think of the pelvic floor as something that always needs strengthening (hello, kegels!), but it’s just as common for the pelvic floor to hold too much tension. When this happens, it can pull on surrounding muscles and joints, causing discomfort.

Improving your movement patterns and addressing any pelvic floor imbalances is key to finding relief.

How to Address Pelvic Floor-Related Hip and Back Pain

Breathe Better

Your diaphragm and pelvic floor are a team. Practice diaphragmatic breathing—let your belly and ribs expand as you inhale, and gently draw your pelvic floor up and in as you exhale.

Strengthen the Right Muscles

Glutes and core muscles are your best friends. Exercises like bridges, squats, and single-leg lunges help strengthen the hips and take the pressure off your back and pelvic floor.

Release Tension

If your pelvic floor is holding too much tension, gentle stretches and mobility work can help. Try yoga poses like child’s pose or hip openers to release tight areas.

Work With a Specialist

A pelvic floor physical therapist can evaluate your specific needs and guide you toward the right exercises and strategies for relief.

Why Whole-Body Care Matters

At The Supine Studio, the focus is on movement and alignment. Combining this approach with pelvic floor therapy make sure you’re treating the symptoms and addressing the root cause of your pain. By working on the connection between your pelvic floor, hips, and back, you can unlock greater mobility, reduce discomfort, and move with ease.

About Meghan Davidson

Optimizing Plastic Surgery Recovery with Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Plastic surgery has become a common path for enhancing physical appearance and improving self-confidence. However, the recovery process can be challenging, marked by swelling, discomfort, and a lengthy healing period. At The Supine Studio, we specialize in Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), an effective therapy for accelerating recovery post-plastic surgery. This article delves into the benefits, timing, and expectations of MLD for those recovering from various cosmetic and medical procedures.

Common Plastic Surgery Procedures Benefiting from MLD

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is beneficial for a wide range of cosmetic procedures, including liposuction, tummy tucks, Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBLs), and breast augmentations. It also aids recovery from medical procedures like hip and knee replacements. These surgeries often result in significant swelling and discomfort, which MLD can help alleviate.

Timing of MLD Treatments for Plastic Surgery Recovery

Patients often wonder when it is safe to start MLD treatments after surgery. With a trained professional, MLD can begin as early as 24 hours post-procedure. Our therapists are skilled in modifying techniques to ensure safety and effectiveness based on the type of surgery, the patient’s healing progress, and the time elapsed since the procedure. Customized care plans are essential to accommodate each patient’s unique recovery needs.

Benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage

The primary benefit of MLD is the reduction of edema, or swelling, which is a common post-surgery issue. By facilitating the drainage of lymphatic fluid, MLD helps decrease swelling, leading to less discomfort and a faster recovery. Patients often experience immediate relief and a noticeable reduction in swelling after a session. This not only enhances their overall recovery experience but also improves surgical outcomes by minimizing complications associated with prolonged edema.

Safety and Contraindications

Generally, if you are healthy enough to undergo plastic surgery, you are healthy enough to receive MLD. There are few contraindications for MLD in plastic surgery recovery, primarily revolving around infections or post-surgical complications. A trained professional will evaluate your condition to ensure that lymphatic drainage is safe and appropriate, potentially postponing treatment if any complications are present.

Frequency of Sessions when Recovering from Plastic Surgery

The number of MLD sessions required can vary significantly based on the procedure. For instance, breast augmentation typically necessitates fewer sessions than a comprehensive mommy makeover. In the initial one to two weeks post-surgery, we recommend 2 to 3 sessions per week. Following this period, 1 to 2 sessions per week may suffice. Healing times can range from 6 to 12 weeks, with high-volume liposuction patients potentially needing sessions for up to a year to fully recover. Each patient’s plan is tailored to their specific needs and progress.

Patient Experiences and Sensations

During an MLD session, most patients feel an immediate sense of deflation as the swelling decreases. Some describe a sensation akin to water moving beneath the skin, indicative of lymphatic fluid mobilization. Increased urination is a common side effect, as the body expels the drained lymphatic fluid. This is a normal and expected part of the process, highlighting the effectiveness of MLD in promoting fluid drainage.

Conclusion on Recovering from Plastic Surgery

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a highly beneficial therapy for those recovering from plastic surgery. By reducing swelling and accelerating the healing process, MLD enhances patient comfort and improves surgical outcomes. At The Supine Studio, our trained therapists provide customized, safe, and effective MLD treatments to support your recovery journey. If you’re preparing for plastic surgery or in the midst of recovery, consider incorporating MLD into your post-operative care for optimal results.

Undergoing rhinoplasty, a surgical procedure designed to reshape and enhance the appearance of the nose, is a significant step towards achieving aesthetic goals. While the focus often lies on the immediate postoperative care of the nasal region, there is a crucial aspect that plays a pivotal role in the recovery process—manual lymphatic drainage (MLD). This gentle massage technique, specifically tailored to encourage lymph flow, can prove to be a game-changer in post-rhinoplasty recovery. Read on to learn about the myriad benefits of incorporating manual lymphatic drainage after rhinoplasty.

1. Reducing Swelling and Bruising:

Swelling and bruising are inevitable companions in the aftermath of rhinoplasty. Manual lymphatic drainage emerges as a powerful ally in combating these postoperative challenges. The technique involves gentle, rhythmic strokes that facilitate the movement of lymphatic fluid, helping to flush out excess fluid and reduce swelling. By expediting the drainage of fluids, MLD aids in minimizing postoperative edema, which is particularly crucial in the delicate nasal area where excess swelling can impede the healing process.

2. Enhancing Circulation:

Effective circulation is vital for the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the healing tissues. Manual lymphatic drainage contributes significantly to this process by improving blood circulation. The gentle massage movements stimulate blood vessels, promoting a more efficient exchange of oxygen and nutrients. Enhanced circulation accelerates the healing process, allowing for quicker tissue repair and reducing the risk of complications during the recovery phase.

3. Pain Management:

Postoperative discomfort is a common concern for individuals who have undergone rhinoplasty. Manual lymphatic drainage has analgesic effects that can alleviate pain and discomfort associated with the surgical procedure. The gentle massage not only helps in reducing swelling but also triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers. This dual-action approach makes MLD an effective and non-invasive method for managing pain during the recovery period.

4. Scar Tissue Reduction:

As the body heals from rhinoplasty, scar tissue inevitably forms. While some scarring is a natural part of the healing process, excessive scar tissue can lead to complications such as adhesions or keloid formation. Manual lymphatic drainage aids in preventing the accumulation of excess scar tissue by promoting the proper alignment of collagen fibers during the healing process. This can result in less visible scarring and a smoother, more aesthetically pleasing outcome.

5. Stimulates the Immune System:

The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in the body’s immune response. Manual lymphatic drainage not only facilitates the removal of waste but also enhances immune function. By promoting the circulation of lymphatic fluid, MLD helps in transporting immune cells more efficiently throughout the body. This immune-boosting effect is particularly valuable during the postoperative phase when the body is vulnerable and in need of additional support to ward off potential infections.

6. Faster Recovery Time:

Time is of the essence in the recovery journey after rhinoplasty. Manual lymphatic drainage can contribute to a speedier recovery by addressing key factors such as swelling, bruising, and pain. The combination of reduced swelling, enhanced circulation, and improved immune function creates an environment conducive to optimal healing. Patients incorporating MLD into their aftercare routine often experience a quicker return to normal activities and a faster transition to the final, desired results of the rhinoplasty.

7. Enhanced Patient Well-Being:

Beyond the physical benefits, manual lymphatic drainage can have a positive impact on the psychological well-being of rhinoplasty patients. The gentle, soothing nature of the massage promotes relaxation and reduces stress, contributing to an overall sense of well-being. A more comfortable and positive recovery experience can translate into increased patient satisfaction and a more positive perception of the surgical journey.

Undergoing liposuction is a significant step towards achieving the body you desire, but it’s crucial to understand the post-operative care required for a successful recovery. Among the many questions that arise during this time, one common question is, “How long after liposuction can you have a massage?” The good news is that you can receive a massage as soon as the next day following liposuction if your therapist is properly trained.

The Role of Post-operative Massage

Post-operative massages, particularly manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), play a crucial role in the recovery process after liposuction. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat from specific areas of the body. This process can cause swelling, bruising, and discomfort as the body adjusts to the changes. Post-operative massages are designed to alleviate these symptoms and promote healing.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

Manual lymphatic drainage is a specialized massage technique that focuses on stimulating the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system plays a vital role in the body’s immune function and fluid balance. After liposuction, the lymphatic system can become overwhelmed, leading to fluid retention and potential complications. MLD helps to reduce swelling and speed up the body’s natural healing processes by gently moving lymphatic fluid through the body’s lymphatic vessels.

The gentle, rhythmic strokes of MLD promote the drainage of excess fluids, reduce inflammation, and enhance the circulation of nutrients and oxygen to the treated areas. This, in turn, accelerates the body’s ability to heal and minimizes the risk of complications such as seromas and infections. MLD is particularly effective in the early stages of recovery when post-operative swelling and inflammation are most pronounced.

When Can You Start MLD After Liposuction?

As mentioned earlier, you can start MLD as soon as the next day following liposuction if your therapist is properly trained. The key here is ensuring that your massage therapist is knowledgeable and experienced in post-operative care. Surgeons who perform liposuction often collaborate with experienced therapists to provide their patients with the best possible care.

Working in Collaboration with Surgeons

Experienced massage therapists who specialize in post-operative care often work closely with the surgeons who perform liposuction procedures. These therapists understand the intricacies of the surgical process and how to tailor their techniques to each patient’s unique needs.

Surgeons are typically comfortable with massage therapists starting MLD early in the recovery process because they recognize the benefits of reducing swelling and promoting healing. In many cases, the surgeons themselves have seen the positive effects of post-operative massages on their patients’ recovery journeys.

Modifying Techniques Based on Healing Progress

One of the key advantages of having an experienced massage therapist collaborate with your surgeon is the ability to modify techniques based on how you are healing. Every patient’s recovery process is unique, and it’s essential to have a therapist who can adapt their approach accordingly.

Experienced therapists can assess your progress during each session and adjust the intensity and frequency of MLD as needed. If they notice any areas of concern or potential complications, they can communicate directly with your surgeon to ensure that your recovery stays on track.

The Benefits of Early Post-Operative Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Starting MLD early in the recovery process offers several benefits for liposuction patients:

Reduced Swelling: MLD helps to reduce post-operative swelling, making you more comfortable and potentially speeding up your recovery.

Faster Healing: By improving lymphatic circulation and nutrient delivery, MLD accelerates the body’s natural healing processes.

Minimized Complications: Early post-operative massages can help prevent complications such as seromas, infections, and delayed healing.

Improved Comfort: MLD can alleviate discomfort and pain associated with liposuction, making your recovery more manageable.

Post-operative massages, particularly manual lymphatic drainage, are a valuable part of the liposuction recovery process. You can start receiving MLD as soon as the next day after your liposuction procedure if your therapist is properly trained. Experienced therapists collaborate with surgeons to provide tailored care, ensuring that you receive the right level of treatment for your unique needs. Early post-operative massages offer numerous benefits, including reduced swelling, faster healing, minimized complications, and improved comfort during your recovery journey. If you are considering liposuction, be sure to discuss post-operative massage options with your surgeon and find an experienced therapist to support your healing process.

Understanding the differences between Swedish Massage and Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) illuminates the diverse spectrum within the realm of massage therapy. While both techniques aim to enhance well-being, their approaches, benefits, and targeted outcomes diverge significantly. Swedish Massage, a quintessential relaxation therapy, emphasizes long, flowing strokes and kneading motions to alleviate muscle tension and promote overall relaxation. Conversely, Manual Lymphatic Drainage operates on a more specialized level, focusing on stimulating the lymphatic system to eliminate toxins and reduce edema, thereby enhancing recovery after surgery or reducing edema in oncology patients.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage, also known as classic massage, aims to promote relaxation, relieve muscle tension, and improve overall circulation. It utilizes a combination of long, flowing strokes, kneading, circular movements, tapping, and friction on the superficial layers of muscles. The primary goal is to provide a deeply relaxing experience while addressing specific muscular issues.

Swedish massage is a full-body massage that covers the back, neck, shoulders, arms, legs, and sometimes the abdomen. It aims to promote relaxation and relieve muscle tension throughout the entire body. It is an excellent choice for individuals seeking overall rejuvenation and stress relief.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

Manual lymphatic drainage is a specialized technique designed to stimulate the lymphatic system. It aims to facilitate the movement of lymphatic fluid, reduce swelling (edema), and enhance the immune response. MLD involves gentle, rhythmic strokes with minimal pressure, following the natural direction of lymph flow to stimulate the lymphatic vessels and encourage the elimination of waste materials.

Manual lymphatic drainage usually concentrates on specific regions where lymphatic congestion is present, such as the arms, legs, or face. This targeted approach allows for more efficient drainage and reduction of localized swelling. The therapist employs specialized techniques, including circular movements, pumping motions, or stationary holds, to address the affected areas effectively.

Manual lymphatic drainage focuses on supporting the lymphatic system and can be beneficial for various conditions. It helps reduce swelling after surgery or injury, improves lymphatic flow in individuals with lymphedema or chronic edema.

At The Supine Studio, we focus on MLD specifically for oncology patients, and those who are recovering from plastic surgery. Contact us to schedule your massage today.

This procedure is often performed on people who have lost a significant amount of weight or women who have had multiple pregnancies.

Lymphatic drainage after a tummy tuck can help to reduce swelling and inflammation in the area, which can be particularly uncomfortable. By promoting lymphatic flow, this technique can also help to speed up the healing process and improve overall circulation.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a popular procedure that involves the placement of implants to enhance the size and shape of the breasts. While the procedure itself is relatively straightforward, the recovery process can be uncomfortable and sometimes even painful.

Lymphatic drainage after breast augmentation can help to reduce swelling and inflammation in the area and promote healing. By improving lymphatic flow, this technique can also help to reduce the risk of complications, such as capsular contracture.

Facelift

A facelift is a surgical procedure that helps to reduce the signs of aging by tightening the skin on the face and neck. While the results can be dramatic, the recovery process can be uncomfortable, with swelling and bruising being common.

Lymphatic drainage after a facelift can help to reduce swelling and bruising, minimize discomfort, and promote healing. By improving lymphatic flow, this technique can also help to reduce the risk of complications, such as infections.

Frequency of Lymphatic Drainage Sessions after Plastic Surgery

The frequency of lymphatic drainage sessions after plastic surgery can vary depending on the type of surgery performed and the individual’s specific needs. However, in general, most people will need to come in for several sessions in the weeks following their surgery.

For liposuction, it is typically recommended that patients come in for lymphatic drainage sessions two to three times a week for the first few weeks following their procedure. After that, the frequency of sessions can be reduced to once a week for several more weeks.

It’s important to note that the frequency of lymphatic drainage sessions may vary depending on individual factors, such as the extent of the surgery and the individual’s overall health. It’s best to consult with a qualified lymphatic drainage therapist or plastic surgeon to determine the appropriate frequency of sessions for your specific needs.

If you’re considering plastic surgery or have recently undergone a procedure, lymphatic drainage may be a helpful addition to your recovery plan. Talk to your plastic surgeon or a qualified lymphatic drainage therapist to determine if this technique is right for you.

Lymphatic drainage has been around since the early days of plastic surgery. The first documented case of lymphatic drainage after plastic surgery was in the early 1900s, when a German surgeon used it to treat a patient who had undergone a mastectomy. Lymphatic drainage is a vital part of the healing process after any type of surgery, but it is especially important after plastic surgery.

Lymphatic drainage is necessary after plastic surgery because it helps to remove lymphatic fluid from the area of the surgery. Lymphatic fluid is a clear, watery fluid that contains white blood cells and other materials. It is produced by the lymphatic system, which is a network of vessels and nodes that runs throughout the body. The lymphatic system helps to fight infection and remove waste products from the body.

If the lymphatic fluid from the area is not drained properly , it can cause lymphoedema. Lymphoedema is a condition that causes swelling in the arms or legs. It can be painful and debilitating, and it can lead to serious infections. Lymphatic drainage after plastic surgery helps to prevent lymphoedema.

The benefits of lymphatic drainage include:

– reduced swelling

– reduced pain

– reduced the risk of lymphoedema

– improved healing time

– improved cosmetic outcome.

If you are considering plastic surgery, make sure to talk to your surgeon about lymphatic drainage, and set up the appointments with a certified lymphatic drainage therapist.
