Manual Lymphatic Drainage is an essential part of BBL recovery. Our specially trained massage therapists can help you reduce swelling and manage pain.

If you’re planning to have a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery, it’s time to plan your recovery. The postoperative period is crucial for your recovery and getting the best results. From ordering the special pillow for sitting to the compression, planning your recovery now is important, and that includes scheduling your BBL recovery.

BBL Recovery Starts with Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is crucial because MLD reduces swelling and can help manage pain. MLD is a specialized massage technique that promotes lymphatic circulation, reduces swelling, and helps your body heal faster. The lymphatic system is responsible for removing excess fluid and waste from the body, and MLD stimulates this process to reduce swelling and promote healing.

The first few days after surgery are the most critical, and you’ll need to follow your surgeon’s instructions diligently. This may include taking medication to manage pain and swelling, avoiding alcohol and tobacco, and staying hydrated. You’ll also need to ensure that you get plenty of rest and take time off work to allow your body to heal.

During a BBL procedure, fat is transferred to your buttocks through small incisions, and this can cause tissue damage and inflammation. MLD helps to reduce this inflammation by promoting lymphatic drainage, which removes excess fluid and waste products from the affected areas. This results in less swelling, less pain, and faster healing times.

Benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage for BBL Recovery

In addition to reducing swelling and promoting healing, MLD has several other benefits that can improve your recovery after BBL surgery. These include:

Improved range of motion: MLD can help to improve your range of motion by reducing muscle tension and improving blood flow. This can be particularly helpful if you’re experiencing stiffness or pain after surgery.

Reduced scar tissue: Scar tissue can form after any surgery, and MLD can help to break down this tissue, reducing the appearance of scars and improving the flexibility of the surrounding tissue.

Increased relaxation: MLD is a gentle and relaxing massage technique that can help to reduce stress and promote relaxation. This can be particularly helpful if you’re feeling anxious or tense after surgery.

To ensure that you get the most benefits from MLD, it’s essential to work with a qualified and experienced therapist who specializes in post-operative care for BBL surgery. They will be able to create a customized treatment plan that addresses your specific needs and helps you to achieve the best possible results.

Timeline of Manual Lymphatic Drainage for BBL Recovery

Our specially trained therapists can work with you as soon as the day after your BBL. While many of the surgeons we work with clear patients for MLD within 48 hours, some like to wait a week before clearing for MLD. The greatest benefit of MLD is the first two weeks post-op, with the first 72 hours being the most beneficial for recovery. Please ask your surgeon when you can begin receiving MLD. Here is our typical recommendations for BBL MLD:

Two weeks prior to BBL: weekly MLD

72 hours before BBL: MLD

72 hours after BBL: MLD

Two weeks after BBL: MLD 2-3x/week

Three weeks after BBL: weekly MLD

Six weeks after BBL: MLD as needed to manage swelling

We recommend booking all your MLD appointment once you have your surgery date so that you can cross one thing off your recovery checklist.

Why book Manual Lymphatic Drainage with The Supine Studio

We have two massage therapists on staff specifically trained in Manual Lymphatic Drainage. Training for Manual Lymphatic Drainage only requires taking a class. This could be online. Our therapists trained in person with one of the leading programs, the Academy of Lymphatic Studies, and became Certified in Manual Lymphatic Drainage. Certification means that our therapists have passed an examination to demonstrate they know the material.
